From Chania airport you can take a KTEL bus that runs several times a day to the Rethymno KTEL station in about 90 minutes, buying tickets onboard, at the airport kiosk, or online. From Heraklion airport there is no direct bus, so you first take a city shuttle to the Heraklion KTEL bus station, then a frequent intercity bus to Rethymno (about 1.5 hours). For door to door travel, private transfers and taxis are widely available from both airports, and many car rental firms let you collect at the airport and drop off in Rethymno.
