Hello RethymnoHello RethymnoPorta Guora is the only surviving gate of Rethymno's Venetian land walls and the symbolic entrance to the Old Town from the modern city. It was built around 1566 and named after the Venetian rector Iacopo Guoro, who governed Rethymno at the time. Step through the stone arch on Ethnikis Antistaseos Street and you reach the heart of the old quarter, near the Rimondi Fountain, the Loggia and Petichaki Square. The carved Venetian Lion of Saint Mark that once topped it is now kept at the Loggia. There is no entrance fee and the gate is freely accessible at any hour.
Η Πόρτα Γκουόρα είναι η μοναδική σωζόμενη πύλη των ενετικών χερσαίων τειχών του Ρεθύμνου και η συμβολική είσοδος στην Παλιά Πόλη από τη σύγχρονη πόλη. Χτίστηκε γύρω στο 1566 και πήρε το όνομά της από τον Ενετό ρέκτορα Iacopo Guoro, που κυβερνούσε τότε το Ρέθυμνο. Περνώντας την πέτρινη καμάρα στην οδό Εθνικής Αντιστάσεως φτάνετε στην καρδιά της παλιάς συνοικίας, κοντά στην Κρήνη Ριμόντι, τη Λότζια και την πλατεία Πετυχάκη. Το σκαλιστό ενετικό Λιοντάρι του Αγίου Μάρκου που την κοσμούσε φυλάσσεται σήμερα στη Λότζια. Δεν υπάρχει εισιτήριο και η πύλη είναι ελεύθερα προσβάσιμη οποιαδήποτε ώρα.
