Hello RethymnoHello RethymnoThe Kara Musa Pasha Mosque stands on Arkadiou Street near Heroes Square (Plateia Iroon), built in the 17th century on the site of a Venetian monastery dedicated to Saint Barbara after the Ottoman conquest of 1646. Named after an Ottoman admiral, it kept its dome and shaded courtyard, though only the base of its minaret survives today. The building has been restored by the Greek Archaeological Service and is usually viewed from outside, with interior access depending on conservation work and occasional openings. It is one of the quieter Ottoman monuments of the Old Town.
Το τζαμί Καρά Μουσά Πασά βρίσκεται στην οδό Αρκαδίου κοντά στην πλατεία Ηρώων, χτισμένο τον 17ο αιώνα στη θέση ενός βενετσιάνικου μοναστηριού αφιερωμένου στην Αγία Βαρβάρα, μετά την οθωμανική κατάκτηση του 1646. Πήρε το όνομά του από Οθωμανό ναύαρχο, διατήρησε τον τρούλο και τη σκιερή αυλή του, αν και σήμερα σώζεται μόνο η βάση του μιναρέ. Το κτίριο έχει αναστηλωθεί από την Αρχαιολογική Υπηρεσία και συνήθως το βλέπει κανείς απ' έξω, με την πρόσβαση στο εσωτερικό να εξαρτάται από εργασίες συντήρησης και περιστασιακά ανοίγματα. Είναι ένα από τα πιο ήσυχα οθωμανικά μνημεία της Παλιάς Πόλης.
