Hello RethymnoHello RethymnoThe shaded Municipal Garden, just south of the Old Town, is one of Rethymno's main summer venues, hosting concerts, the open air cinema, exhibitions and folklore nights through the warm months. It is the historic home of the Rethymno Wine Festival, the oldest festival in the city, where you sample Cretan wines and local products with live music and dancing, although the festival has in recent years moved up to the Venetian Fortezza (for example the Cretan Diet and wine event on 1 July 2026). Most Municipal Garden events are free or low cost, run in the evenings to escape the heat, and are listed on the Municipality agenda. Check the current year's programme, since the wine feast venue and dates shift between the Garden and the Fortezza.
