Hello RethymnoHello RethymnoSchinaria (also spelled Skinaria) is a quiet bay of fine light sand and pebbles with exceptionally clear, deep water, about 33 km south of Rethymno and 3 km south of the village of Lefkogia, in the wider Plakias area. Its rocky seabed and rich marine life, including moray eels and octopus, make it one of the best snorkelling and scuba diving spots in Crete, and a diving school is based here. The beach is only lightly organised: a tavern rents some sunbeds and umbrellas, but there is no lifeguard, so come prepared. The eastern end is informally used by naturists.
Τα Σχοινάρια (ή Σκινάρια) είναι ένας ήσυχος κόλπος με ψιλή ανοιχτόχρωμη άμμο και βότσαλα και εξαιρετικά καθαρά, βαθιά νερά, περίπου 33 χλμ. νότια του Ρεθύμνου και 3 χλμ. νότια του χωριού Λευκόγεια, στην ευρύτερη περιοχή του Πλακιά. Ο βραχώδης βυθός και η πλούσια θαλάσσια ζωή, με σμέρνες και χταπόδια, το καθιστούν από τα καλύτερα σημεία για κατάδυση και αναπνευστήρα στην Κρήτη, ενώ εδώ εδρεύει σχολή καταδύσεων. Η παραλία είναι ελαφρώς οργανωμένη: μια ταβέρνα νοικιάζει λίγες ομπρέλες και ξαπλώστρες, αλλά δεν υπάρχει ναυαγοσώστης. Το ανατολικό άκρο χρησιμοποιείται ανεπίσημα από γυμνιστές.
