Hello RethymnoHello RethymnoSfendoni Cave near the mountain village of Zoniana, on the southern slopes of Psiloritis, is the largest show cave open to visitors in Crete, with rich stalactite and stalagmite formations across a 270 metre walking route on raised walkways. Entry is only with a guide, and the guided tour lasts about 25 to 30 minutes in Greek or English, with a stable interior temperature around 19 to 20 degrees Celsius. In summer (roughly mid April to late October) it opens daily, while in winter it typically opens only on Sundays; there is a cafe at the entrance where you buy tickets and wait for the next group. No advance booking is needed as tours run regularly through the day.
Το Σπήλαιο Σφεντόνη κοντά στο ορεινό χωριό Ζωνιανά, στις νότιες πλαγιές του Ψηλορείτη, είναι το μεγαλύτερο επισκέψιμο σπήλαιο της Κρήτης, με πλούσιους σταλακτίτες και σταλαγμίτες σε διαδρομή 270 μέτρων πάνω σε διαδρόμους. Η είσοδος γίνεται μόνο με ξεναγό, και η ξενάγηση διαρκεί περίπου 25 με 30 λεπτά στα ελληνικά ή αγγλικά, με σταθερή θερμοκρασία γύρω στους 19 με 20 βαθμούς. Το καλοκαίρι (περίπου μέσα Απριλίου έως τέλη Οκτωβρίου) ανοίγει καθημερινά, ενώ τον χειμώνα συνήθως μόνο τις Κυριακές, και υπάρχει καφέ στην είσοδο όπου αγοράζετε εισιτήρια. Δεν χρειάζεται κράτηση, καθώς οι ξεναγήσεις γίνονται τακτικά μέσα στην ημέρα.
