For anything that matters use a courier: ACS, Geniki Taxydromiki, Speedex and ELTA Courier deliver across Crete in 1 to 2 days, and DHL, UPS and FedEx handle international. Box Now self-service lockers are dotted around town for cheap drop-off and returns.
Receiving (the tricky part on an island): always give a Greek mobile number with the address, because couriers phone or text before delivery and will not leave a parcel without contact. Write the address simply (name, street and number, area, Rethymno, postcode, GREECE); villages often have no street numbers, so add a landmark and your phone. If no one is home the courier leaves a note or holds it at their depot or an ACS Smart Point / Box Now locker for pickup with ID. ELTA parcels are held at the post office (poste restante too), collected with your passport.
From outside the EU: parcels over about 150 euros attract customs duty, and VAT (24 percent) is now charged on almost all non-EU parcels regardless of value. ELTA or the courier clears it and you pay the duty/VAT plus a small handling fee on delivery, so factor that in before ordering from the US, UK or Asia. Within the EU there is no customs. Allow a few extra days for anything coming to Crete versus the mainland.

Για ό,τι έχει σημασία χρησιμοποιήστε κούριερ: ACS, Γενική Ταχυδρομική, Speedex και ELTA Courier παραδίδουν σε όλη την Κρήτη σε 1-2 μέρες, ενώ DHL, UPS και FedEx για διεθνή. Θυρίδες Box Now υπάρχουν παντού στην πόλη.
Παραλαβή (το δύσκολο σε ένα νησί): δώστε πάντα ελληνικό κινητό μαζί με τη διεύθυνση, γιατί τα κούριερ τηλεφωνούν ή στέλνουν SMS πριν την παράδοση. Γράψτε απλά τη διεύθυνση (όνομα, οδός και αριθμός, περιοχή, Ρέθυμνο, ΤΚ, GREECE)· τα χωριά συχνά δεν έχουν αριθμούς, οπότε προσθέστε σημείο αναφοράς και τηλέφωνο. Αν λείπετε, αφήνεται σημείωμα ή κρατείται στην αποθήκη ή σε ACS Smart Point / θυρίδα Box Now για παραλαβή με ταυτότητα. Τα δέματα ΕΛΤΑ κρατούνται στο ταχυδρομείο (και poste restante), με διαβατήριο.
Από εκτός ΕΕ: δέματα άνω των ~150 ευρώ έχουν δασμό, και ΦΠΑ (24%) πλέον σχεδόν σε όλα τα δέματα εκτός ΕΕ. Τα ΕΛΤΑ ή το κούριερ εκτελωνίζουν και πληρώνετε δασμό/ΦΠΑ συν μικρό κόστος στην παράδοση. Εντός ΕΕ δεν υπάρχει τελωνείο. Αφήστε λίγες μέρες παραπάνω για την Κρήτη.
