Ximeio Coffee Roastery roasts its own beans in town, and there are independent third wave cafes scattered through the old town serving espresso based drinks and pour overs. The traditional Cretan order remains the freddo espresso or freddo cappuccino, served cold over ice, which most cafes do very well. If you want a single origin filter or a proper flat white, look for the newer roasteries and specialist cafes rather than the harbourfront tourist spots.
