The Old Town lanes hold smaller bars, rakadika, and clubs like Metropolis in the old Venetian harbour, where DJs and Greek artists play. Prices are friendly compared with the big party resorts to the east, and the crowd is a mix of Greek students, Erasmus exchange students, and young expats.
Το Ρέθυμνο είναι πανεπιστημιακή πόλη, οπότε η νυχτερινή ζωή είναι νεανική και ζωντανή, με τη μεγαλύτερη συγκέντρωση φοιτητικών μπαρ στο ενετικό λιμάνι, τη μαρίνα και τις μικρές πλατείες της Παλιάς Πόλης γύρω από την Κρήνη Ριμόντι. Το Fraules, στη μαρίνα, είναι αγαπημένο εδώ και χρόνια για φοιτητές και νέους ντόπιους, για κοκτέιλ και τη θέα στο λιμάνι. Τα σοκάκια της Παλιάς Πόλης έχουν μικρότερα μπαρ, ρακάδικα και κλαμπ όπως το Metropolis στο παλιό ενετικό λιμάνι, με DJ και Έλληνες καλλιτέχνες. Οι τιμές είναι πιο προσιτές σε σύγκριση με τα μεγάλα τουριστικά θέρετρα ανατολικά, και το κοινό είναι ένα μείγμα Ελλήνων φοιτητών, φοιτητών Erasmus και νέων ομογενών.
